Getting the flock out of here - a diary of a crazy chicken man

An ostrich for Thanksgiving... now that would be a sight
a 300+- bird will yield appx 100+- lbs of meat....

So youd better invite two hundred people to dinner.... LOL. and it would take em all to turn the spit.

or dig the cooking pit....

Or build the REALLY BIG Brick oven....

Not to mention cook all the dressing....

Next time you see him, tell him you know a guy that sells "real" chickens in the Philippines for his family!!

you will be surprised where in the world you will find Filipinos!
I have discovered there is a fairly large Filipino population here in podunk. I one regular that will buy roos. Of course he likes to haggle so I always price them a bit more than I know he'll actually go for in the end.

I also had a lady, not actually sure of her nationality, last summer that would buy my small eggs, then stand there and eat them raw from the shells. That was a bit different

The turkeys are probably broad breasted.

The males will not reproduce with out artificial insemination but you can get a medium breasted bronze and cross with the hens.

I have a couple of broad breasted bronze eggs - hoping to get them to hatch. I would love to bring a 40lb turkey to my mother in law for Christmas and ask her to clean it! (My MIL does not process birds btw)
my tom was 40 lbs at 11 months old
he was yummy :)

A 380 mile chicken run will begin in 20 minutes

I am off to Poway for Breda Fowl then La Jolla for Legbars

I should be back in OC by 12

Then its onto Acton and Sylmar for Turkeys.

Then its packing time.

The things we do for eggs!

The thought of eggs (sort of ) locally laid and so recently of such high priority are just too good to pass up.

We are blessed with an amazing freeway network in SoCal. Provided there are no accidents this early on a Saturday - it should be a breeze.

Now I have just jinxed myself LOL

the map is all green for now!

May your path be clear and your four-wheeled carriage consisting of thousands of individually functioning parts keep doing what it's supposed to do.
