Getting the flock out of here - a diary of a crazy chicken man

Oz: I am hand turning at the moment every 8 hours. My eggs are lying flat on their sides. I have an "X" on one side and an "O" on the opposite side.
Are your eggs lying flat on their sides? If so, Do you roll them over 180 degrees when you turn 5x per day?

We have about 500 eggs in the bator so hand turning is out.

We tilt shelves 45 degrees each direction for a total of 90

All eggs are upright in trays.

At 17-18 days they go to the hatcher and are placed in baskets. They hatch on their sides

Oh ok. Congrats on everything Oz.

If i am turning big eggs that cant fit into racks, i rotate clockwise 180, then anti clockwise 180 and the third time i rotate on the other axiis - keeping the small end fixed and lifting the big end to flip the egg 180. I never complete a circle.

I may try it that way next hatch. Hand turning is aggrivating. I can fit 42 eggs with the auto turner in. I have over 60 in it now without the turner.

I know a Guinea breeder that double stacks all the time....  though Guinea eggs are pretty tough.

YOu might try running the turner with the lid off just to watch what happens to eggs set on top.  I would think theyd just roll

I have done this with chicken eggs. Make sure you rotate the eggs through thr turner and the double stack.
