Getting Worse.. please reply??

So just an update here... I game him three full days of the Tylan and it hasn't really seemed to make a difference. The first night he seemed to be going down hill fast, so I thought the Tylan might have helped when he was a little better the next day as far as not being sleepy and quite as needy/distressed. But it's been several days now, he's off the Tylan today and he is still acting weird. It's hard to pinpoint, but he's still pecking at his legs and feet and hopping, circling occasionally. At times, especially outside playing, he seems extra "freaked out" and concerned with his legs and then he'll start lost-calling and run up and burrow into me, like he needs the comfort. He has always been my most independent poult. So it's strange. I'm starting him on yogurt today... came to take a look and find out how long I should give that to him, etc. Oh, and I also got some blukote cause he pecked another hole in his other foot and making it all bloody. I'm hoping to at least control that symptom!
I'll update again as to whether he ever gets past this or not :/

could he have gotten into shattered glass? maybe he keeps trying to get away from splinters of glass stuck in his feet. if they are clear, you might be unable to see them.

Just an idea- don't know what else it might be :(

Hey Chickmashnoon... I just don't know! We have a big property and the poults were in the backyard where there typically isn't any sort of glass/debris. When he first started zipping around and acting scared, I checked really thoroughly and eventually washed his legs and feet real good with baby shampoo, rubbed them down, tried to feel for any splinters. I even looked all over (he was being really calm like the whole ordeal had stressed him) with a magnifying glass in bright light - just couldn't find anything. Aside from the foot/leg thing (and him acting like he's being chased by his own legs still), he's also still occasionally clumsy and moves in circles. Other than that though - I've been very relieved that his appetite/thirst have been normal, his stool is normal. Although at times he still circles around the food dish like he has vertigo or is trying to find a comfortable way to stand, before eating. It's so bizarre. I'm just glad he hasn't gone down hill. At first I thought maybe he got stung/bit by something.. but it's been several days and I figure it should have been over by now. So.. maybe it is some sort of glass splinter, cause I'm really stumped on what the heck else this could be.

I sprayed his feet/lower legs with the Blukote today.. At first he acted EXTRA scared of his own feet lol but then he calmed down. Now he's just back to his regular symptoms and occasionally pecking. At least it stopped him from attacking the spots that were already bloody/scabbed so he doesn't make it worse.

Hey SonnyGirl, how is your poult doing? I came looking for an answer here to my poult all of a sudden acting skitzo too. I have 18 poults, just over 2 weeks old and just today one started freaking out.... he peeps all the time even when standing in a corner looking at the wall. When outside the brooder he ran all over doing a lost peep, and kept jumping up on me. My lap my neck, my back... and he's shaking his head all over and pecking at himself a lot more than any of the others do.
I looked him over for mites or anything crawling on him, but I didn't see anything. I added some DE to the brooder, but I don't know if it will help, and I don't want the others to 'catch' what he has..... I'm seriously thinking about culling for the health of the rest of them, but if it's something non-life threatening I want to find out soon before I do anything drastic.

Hey guys... Im sorry, I didn't know anyone had replied to this!! Now your replies are pretty old of course :/
Bucket04.. I'm really sorry to hear about your poult. Another one of those strange things that's hard to really pinpoint, I guess! Those are really weird symptoms too. Poor guy... did he seem to be trying to get comfort from you, like to be held? Or just going schizo and didn't know what to do with himself?? Please let me know what happened?? I hope he got over it or otherwise turned out ok :/ I always feel compelled to try everything, including a good dose of antibiotics (just in case) before giving up.

Thank you for asking too kuntrygirl! My guy is ok now!! He has had SO many problems since he hatched. Like I said before, the antibiotics didn't seem to make a difference... but he seemed to get a little better slowly. At first I wasn't sure if he was just learning to compensate for his issues and work AROUND them... but then, little by little, he started acting better and better. The Blukote on his legs kept him from pecking holes in his feet/legs which he was doing (less and less) for almost three weeks! Now he is acting totally normal again - except when he runs he has a bit of a gimp or a hitch in his step, I guess you could say. It doesn't seem painful though. But he also hesitates before jumping down from a tall spot.. and his landings are awkward when he flies. He used to be a good flyer and had perfect landings. I'm not sure why he can't jump down from high spots... he stumbles if he does, but I think it might be painful too. So - I don't know what the heck happened to him, but it seems to have left an effect on his legs. You wouldn't believe what else happened to him! Last week, when he was finally recovered from his mystery injury... he got an impacted crop from eating one of my 3 yr old niece's little rubber toys!!! Thank god he got it up on his own and has recovered nicely from that lol. But everything is great now. He has always been the largest of my three poults... but he never was dominant. I think he didn't realize his own strength.. but he also didn't feel good very often! Lately he has been realizing how big and strong he is and I think today he finally won his dominance. My other poult now has a bloody snood (that was almost ripped in half) and peck marks on her which I've been so upset about and trying to minimize. But I guess he's finally feeling better!! So now I have a new poult to nurse...
