I got 5 assorted giant(LF) cochin pullets from Welp Hatchery, Hatched 3/16. They are now a month old. Looks like I have 3 or 4 roosters.

Hello all,
I am new to Cochins, and purebred chickens for exhibition. I grew up on a farm, I tend to think of chickens from a utilitarian point of view. But my daughter and I are starting a flock for 4-H, so I am learning, too. My friend has a pair of Mille Fleur bantam cochins, and she gave me several hatching eggs. Is this variety still a project, or is it recognized? What genetics are being used to produce them, where should we start with breeding them? Ok I just set eggs this week,

so I have time to study the genetics, but I don't even know where to start.

What crosses were used to develop the color? I will have to get some new blood since these eggs will all be full siblings. Thanks for any info.

Ok, oops, I swear I thought I was on the main cochin thread, how did I end up here? I will respost where I meant to.

I noticed the barred chick was chest bumping with some of the chicks I know are roos........ Hmmm

#4 also has a funny looking comb. Its like a straight comb, but with only one spike in the back??? It almost looks like a cross between a rose and a straight comb.

Anyone else? Sometimes I look at them, and say, Its a rooster, then other times, the comb almost seems pink, and I'll say, well, maybe it's a pullet? These littte cochins are playing tricks on me.

They look like pullets to me? I had a standard cochin roo once, you could tell very early he was a roo! Huge red comb, super thick legs and a very stout beak.
