We aren't sure which hen is laying which eggs. The answer to the mystery is to watch them lay, but that's not an easy thing for two people with busy schedules.

Up until recently we thought we only had two laying. We have two older hens, age unknown and one young Rhode Island Red.

Here is the one we think is no longer laying:

Here's what we think is our best laying hen and the ruler of the roost:

No pics of the new red.

Here's a pic of what we think is the first pullet egg from the red next to what we usually get from the bossy one:

Now we are getting giant eggs that don't have great shells yet, so that makes me think it's from the red.

Those are the biggest eggs I've ever seen in person. We can't even close the carton.

My guess is the red was laying the smaller ones seen on the left in the carton and the bossy hen is laying the mid sized ones. Do hens normal lay small pullets and then start laying giant eggs like that without laying any size in between?

wow those are some huge eggs lol is the 2nd bird a black sex link? thats the one laying the big one probably.

I'm not sure what kind of birds are in those pictures. We got these from a friend who got them from some lady, so they're a mystery to us. We've had eggs from that black one for a couple years now, but they've never been that big before.

I'd love to know what types they are so the wife and I can call them something other than the old one and the bossy one. Lol

Its some kind of mix I'm pretty sure its a black sex link the top one looks like some kind of Easter eager mix or americua I don't really know the difference lol

Lol, I've never heard of a black sex link. What a funny name. Sounds like Internet porn. Just googled it and I agree. Good to know, thanks.
