Hi everyone!

I've got 12 coturnix, 2 males and 10 females. This is our second year with these birds and everything is going pretty well but there has been some weirdness lately and I wondered if any of it meant there was a problem.

First, when I collect eggs sometimes there are 11 or 12. No biggie except I didn't realize that they could lay more than one egg in a day.

Second, there is a HUGE difference in size. Sometimes they are giant...almost the size of a golf ball. Other times they tiny, like a small gumball. Last year they were all the same size.

It's crazy. Mine laid some of those jumbo eggs too. When I went to eat them they were both double yokes too! Was a cool discovery! Are the double yokes common?

Very young and very old hens can have great variation in their eggs. It's common. @steamer6 double yolks can be common. I have a 6 month old hen that usually lays them. And of course young hens just starting to lay will tend to lay many as their system kicks into production.

I have 11 hens they all lay regular one egg a day except one she lays every other day the egg is always a giant double yolk.
