Giant hens, no eggs - BBQ incoming

Molting is for the birds I have 35 laying hens and I am lucky to get 2 eggs a day. I understnd molting but do they have to do it all at once.

Rhawn nice coop! Love the nail thing. Does it still hurt? I have been a carpenter for 24 years and have always had the thought that might happen to me, I know it's only a matter of time. But I don't think I will be taking any pics if it does happen. As far as the eggs you have come too far to turn back now, They will lay, I am waiting too. some days are harder than others. I keep telling myself it will happen maybe not today maybe not tomorrow but soon.

Do I get a free one for that lol!!

Youch! I remember seeing that when you posted in regards to your hand...and now they're taking their sweet time.

My girls were born mid-march and my cousin (whom is a chicken expert, but not very accessible, she just grad from college

) predicted they would molt before I received any eggs. Luckily, she was wrong, but could be a reason

Hey, you're near me -- I'll take those freeloading girls off your hands in a snap and drop you off some tasty roosters to take their place! Just let me know before I ship them all off tomorrow!

MY birds are 22 weeks now and still zilch. They said they would get back to me on the egg laying problem. That was two weeks ago and still no answer back from the hen commitee.

I have a laying flock of about 29 hens (in addition to my two breeder flocks), that range from a year up to almost four years old. Today, I got 3 eggs from 29 hens. The time of year, some are molting, some are older and do not lay as often, a couple had some sort of reproductive infection or are laying internally, etc, etc. I'm sure things will pick back up soon. No one is getting BBQ'd, though maybe if I offered them some to eat, they'd lay for me, LOL.

I have Buff’s that are 2 years old. They were at least 6 months old before they started to lay. My hens are molting for a 2nd time this year and don’t lay when molting.

Once Buff’s start laying, they are prolific layers. Patience might be the key here.

Good luck!!
