Gideon's Got a Girlfriend! Gideon's Got a Girlfriend! She Isn't Pleased!

She's cute! Does she always have that look on her face? And those little spurs...

Good thing they're tiny! She reminds me of some of my MIL's bantams. I'll see if I can get a pic or 2, but those chooks are wild! I've given up trying to befriend them ages ago.

That wild mean vicious look is always on that face.

unless you met her and spent time with her, she would scare the crap out of most people when she looks at you. Not to mention those who have had the pleasure (myself included) of being attacked by that tiny toerag. Her behavior is strictly due to her eye sight and her genetics. Were she of a docile breed, she would probably be more timid with her bad eye sight but not the Terrorist. She is about as timid as a jaguar! But she loved my daughter.

What do you mean "when they were shorter"

And those claws! I still think she's cute, but I think I'll skip the cuddles with this one!

We did trim the claws after seeing they had gotten too long, but I won't trim her spurs, those being her only defense, with her bad eyesight.

Once Isaac clocks out for the night, Tiny is on duty-it's the weirdest thing you ever saw. The problem is that she makes no difference in friend or foe-whoever comes through the door is attacked. At least, if she is starts that garbage with one of us and won't back down, my EE hen, June, Isaac's favorite hen, rises to our defense. She is the bodyguard for DH in particular. She wallops Tiny and sends her screaming into the other room.

I guess she can be forgiven, considering her bad eyesight. I've had so many chickens and I've read so many chicken stories, but she's totally unique. Interesting little terror.

She is unique, 'tis true. She was about 1/2 the size of all the other chicks she hatched with and after about 3 days, we realized she was walking over the feeder, looking at the other chicks, but never taking a bite. The tan feed in the aluminum feeder probably was invisible to her. At first, we thought she might be blind.

We mashed up some egg and put it in a blue bowl, then sat her in it and tapped the egg with our fingers. Oh, my, she started pecking and singing! She sang and ate and sang and ate. We changed the feeder to a red feeder and the contrast between the red and the feed made the difference. She was fine from there on out.

She can't pick up a grain of anything, or catch a bug because she can't aim. She must have a pile of something to eat from or out of our hands. She knows our hands hold good stuff.

This black chick in the center was Tiny as a baby of 3 days old--you can see how little she was, hence her name:

ETA: Oh, dear, poor Tiny. The entire flock, or so I thought, was involved in eating cornbread I threw into the pen when I shooed Gideon and Dru into the coop to chow down before the Evil Big Women came in and hogged the feeders at roost time. They went in and as I was walking toward the gate, I heard a huge commotion inside, lots of distressed yelling. I stuck my head in the pop door (which is about my waist level on that slope), thinking a hen is inside and beating up on Gideon or Dru, and what do I see? Gideon expertly mating Tiny! She is yelling to beat the band but it's happening whether she likes it or not. When she gets free, she runs screaming from the coop, her feathers all askew.

He isn't fertile yet at just 13 weeks old, but he sure knows what to to! Again, poor Tiny! She has a new admirer whether she wants one or not.

Sumi...my daughter has no fear of any chicken except 2 roosters...she is afraid of my Blue Orp Lancelot and she was intimidated by Speckledhen's blue orp, Suede. But she scooped the Terrorist up in a flash and began cuddling her...she even scooped up Speckledhen's Delaware rooster Isaac...which frankly scared the crap out of Speckledhen and I when she initially did it....then we could not keep Isaac away from her or her away from him. Now Cyn's husband must swing with Isaac in hammock too...he loved hammock time. Who knew? hahahahaha I spoile her Orp roo Suede and my daughter ruined her Delaware roo so we can only visit her place once a year. hahahahaha

This was her carrying that big ole Delaware boy (Gideon's daddy)

Then it progressed to this

And then this....

Oh And P.S. Cyn be prepared Cheyenne wants to negotiate visitation rights for Isaac and Tiny....she thinks they need to have visitation time in Kentucky on the bluegrass and that Isaac should retire here in his old age to enjoy all the human child pampering and green grass he deserves (she says he can live in her bedroom in a special made Isaac roost area. She is working on her proposal so be forewarned.

Thanks, Cyn, I saw the thread just now. I'll settle down and do some reading a bit later. DH wants to know what breed those grey chicks are. He likes the look of them.
