Gidget's egg

My barred rock Gidget has been laying weird eggs lately. They have sort of mended cracks in them. I'll post a picture. Gidget is a very healthy chicken. Why is she laying eggs like this?

Have you cracked the egg open to examine the thickness of shell?
Would be best to crack it across the mend,
from small end to large end of egg,
by rapping it with a knife.

An egg that cracks during the shelling phase,
from a scare/jump/tumble,
can be 'mended' by further shelling,
but I've never seen one like this.

My cousin raises chickens, and he told me picking them up can cause that.

Ehhh.....maybe, you'd have to handle them pretty roughly.

Active imagination would describe him definitely. He has 11 chickens, 16 pigs, 3 dogs, and 1 horse! I read that it's actually the result of having too much calcium in their body, so extra gets deposited onto eggs.
