Well I candled at Day 6 and there is development in all eight eggs. Well in seven because I stupidly cracked one at day three thinking it was clear. Stupid.
Anyway, that means Gigantor, which is a double yolker, IS DEVELOPING!!!!!
I knew these eggs would develop. That's because they're my neighbor's misshapen mutt eggs and I have three dozen fancy pheasant eggs coming in the mail which need the incubator space!!!!!
Will take care of them though, live and let live...
Just for the sake of genetic diversity I would try and hatch any double yolker.... even though I know most times it doesn't work. If you get a hen out of a double yolker, Aren't it's chances of laying double yolkers slightly increased.
i've hatched some jumbo size eggs from my barbed rocks last year, they all grew up fine and you can't tell them apart and none of these hens large anyting but average eggs. I also hatched a egg that had a rippled shell, kinda wavy and brain like, really wierd. it hatched just fine. I dod remember one of the large eggs was th elast to hatch and even though 2 or 3 days younger that the others he was much bigger at birth, but was weak and fat, I named him Baby Hughy. but after a week or so they all looked a like and can't pick it out now either, course there were 30 somehting in that hatch and 8 were roosters that went to live at a safe placed owend by a PETA freak, so i knew they were safe from the fryer.
only 7 went to the farm, I tried butchering/ processing one rooster, thinking i'd fill the freezer with my home grown chickens. It took over an hour process and the bird was tuff and rubbery. So i buy chickens frozen at the grocery when they are on sale for $4, my time is worth something.

I saw that Video Flippacase. It was very interesting. I really liked it but sad in the chapter 2 video.
Lexgold,
Be prepared to assist the hatching when the egg does hatch. The lady in the video did it with 2 different out comes for the 2 double yolkers she hatched. You may have to play "midwife" during the hatching, so clear your calender. Good Luck on your Double egger adventure. I hope the twins will be healthy when they hatch.
There's definitely one embryo in there...maybe two????
All the eggs are developing...they seem to be super-fertile!!!
A friend has just hatched some of this guy's eggs too and got a 90% hatch rate. As I said, just my luck. I have all these pheasant eggs coming in the mail and here are these chicken eggs hatching away in my incubator. Where to put the new eggs???? !!!!
