Hey guys,
I have been highly inactive which wasn't like me! Well here's why!
Bedroom got re-done completely! Carpets ripped out and vinyl wood tiling was put down for much easier cleanup if there is a Gil accident on the floor! Everything was repainted and moved around so we have a lot more space for Gil's pen. The poor sport spent a night sleeping in the mini van with us because when the flooring got ripped out, we had to sand and bleach the sub-flooring. We had a lot of fish tanks in the room and some had leaked and we wanted to run NO risk of mold under the flooring as this could kill us and Gil. She was sooooo good about sleeping in the mini van for the night though! We brought her a tupperware bin out and she stayed in it all night and did not try to leave it! She was so content sleeping right next to us that ever since that, she's been trying to sleep on the bed with us instead of in her pen..... Nice try Gil. Well I guess it was a great attempt because we woke up cuddling her the other day Her pen is in the middle of being expanded and she's going to have a huge pen! I am so excited and I cannot wait to share it with you guys! Demo was rough and took about a week but shouldn't be too much longer!

I am so so so excited!!! The pen can be set permanently today. We are now on day 7 of straight remodeling, construction and demo. We ripped floors out and fixed walls. We wanted to be sure our leaked fish tanks weren't creating mold under the carpet that would be harming Gil or us. Project was supposed to be 2-3 days....... but there was a very very tiny amount of mold underneath the one fish tank....... SOOOO we have to sand and bleach the sub-floor and sleep in the minivan for that night. Gilberta slept in her tupperware bin in the minivan very happily. Couldn't sleep on the sofa for many reasons mostly all regarding Gil getting into some type of trouble overnight or cats. 1 night in the car, 1 night we had to all sleep on the brand new vinyl wood floors because we had no furniture in the room. I've had a long rough week. Anyways, no more ugly blue carpet or walls. All paint is moisture resistant so it is safe for fish tanks and we won't have mold issues. Walls and floors both have a moisture barrier. Everything was deeply disinfected, sanded, cleaned, replaced, repainted with the moisture proof paint and just overall redone. We built mounts for the tv speakers and boxes so they could hang under the mounted tv. No more wires on the floor! Gil doesn't play with them but I don't want live electric cords on the floor with the possibility of fish tank water on the floor. The whole room was practically made into a nursery because we had to duck proof everything as Gil really still isn't interested in other duck friends or living outdoors. She really just wants us and the warm indoors. We made it so her pen has clear sight of us anywhere in the room because the blind spots used to upset her. She does not like being ditched. Biggest improvement to the room was ripping out the closet and finishing it off. It's now just open and will be Gil's new pen area. She'll get the whole closet area plus it comes out further. The shelf in the top of the closet will be for all the small animals in tanks so I can feed everyone in one quick shot! I am so excited to finish up her pen as for the past week she's been living on painters plastic and a blanket and this stuff SMELLS! Once the pen is set, were ditching the painters plastic. That was just to protect the brand new floor until her pen was set. Well, here's the before pics of her ducky mansion! I will also include pics of her old setup (as she grew we tried to expand that so it's different sizes). We got a whole wardrobe to replace the closet but it takes up sooo much more space than we planned. We didn't mean for the wardrobe to be the size of the closet..... It looked a lot smaller in the warehouse than my bedroom.........
(She'll get the closet area plus were brining it out- not sure on shape yet- this is just the space.) I should have gotten a better pic in the closet because it's larger than it looks. Once the pen is set in a good shape, it will be MUCH larger than just that pen formed in a circle or even blocked off to the wall like it was before. (Everything's still full of sawdust, the room hasn't gotten the final cleaning-ignore that!)

Here's her old pen so we can all see why this is going to be considered the mansion! I don't have original setup pics but it was even smaller. As she grew, we added the longer piece of chicken wire to the back of the pen to make it bigger. I am so happy she now has a whole section and the pen just blocks it off as apposed to the pen in a circle being her spot!
