My sweet little EE, "Willow" just laid the biggest chicken egg I have ever seen!!! She just started laying a couple of weeks ago, her eggs started out green, and have turned a lovely aqua blue (that's eggciting enough in itself!) But look what she did today!!.........

I bet it'll be a double yolker. My girls recently started laying as well and I had 1 lay a huge egg also. The egg carton lid wouldn't close all the way. It turned out to be a double yolker. The huge egg was fun (so I know how you feel), but getting a double yolker was fun, too. I wonder how frequently double yolkers happen and what causes it. Is it genetics, like some people are more likely to have twins because it runs in the family?

My experience is that young hens that are just starting to lay produce the double yokers. As they get older I don't seem to get double yokers; only in the beginning.
