This seems like a weird thing to celebrate but I'm so proud of my little huntresses. 💕

I did not know that they would not touch a toad until just a couple of days ago. I’ve seen them play frog keep away a few times so when I came across a small toad hanging out in my bag of potting soil I called the flock over. Of course they thought I had treats and when I tossed the little toad to them they gave it the evil eye and walked away. 🤣 My rooster did try to kill it but left it behind when it was stunned. It eventually hopped away.

Your post serves as a reminder that when big-time poultry producers advertise their chickens are vegetarian fed, it's just a ploy to unknowing customers.

Given the opportunity -- and don't try to tell me that commercial operations NEVER attract bugs, mice, snakes or other vermin -- ALL chickens enjoy a meaty meal. as well as the chase that leads up to it. Their feed MAY be vegetarian, the chickens are most assuredly not.

While I, in fact, like snakes, I can appreciate your girls' hunting abilities!

The only time I've ever discouraged my chickens from hunting was when one of the hens stuffed a fallen baby robin into her beak. She was marching around with it in her mouth, and I was too late to save any portion of it.

Good thing chickens are on the small side -- or we might all have to be worried about what, or who, they would eat.
