Hi!

I've had a read and can't seem to find anything on sexing bantams when it comes to using down/feathers.

So does anyone know if I can tell by their colours which gender they are?

Thanks!

Sorry I wasn't asking about the adults, we know all too well chickaletta is a boy, noisy bugger

I just wondered if we could tell what the chicks are yet, I've had so many people say 'oh the dark ones a boy' but read nothing to back it up!

The little ones are too young to tell, as @Ol Grey Mare wrote. How old exactly are they? from 6-8 weeks on it should become clearer. Dark = boy and yellow = girl doesn't work in this case, I think. There are "sex-link" chicken breeds where male and female chicks have different colors, but your Bantam chooks are not one of those breeds as far as I can see.

Here's an article on sex-linked chickens:

I saw a show on tv that said even wing feathers were one sex and uneven were the other. I just can't remember which was which. One of my black sexlink mommas disappeared for a couple of weeks and came home with ten baby chicks a couple of days old. They range from purely black to purely very pale yellow. Some variations of beige with brown stripes down their backs. We know who the daddy is but not his type though he looks like a male version of the black sexlinks. Does anyone know about this method of sexing?

Thank you! They're 3weeks old, our friends are having them and happy whatever their gender, I just hope they're not both boys!

Petra posted a link about sexlinks above
