Girls vs Girls

OK last year it was pretty cold to be honest, usually it the coldest it gets is -30. And I can put blankets on them if needed or move them in the chicken coop (where it'd be warmer but they'd stink it up fast

) but if they're dying type cold then we can bring them in the house (I DO have chicken diapers that mnight fit them

Well, you practice hatching eggs this winter, and come springtime, I'll send you some eggs. Although, shipping through Canada is a probelm, so it'll have to be airmail only. Good thing I'm NPIP now. I'll have to investigate if its legal or not. (of course, you are my amiga, so maybe you should buy a muskovey hen to use as an incubator for the goose eggs. They are mighly valuable.

Muscovey hen? Hmm, my sister DOES like them...

The biggest obstacle is my mom. She says their expensive (I said "Ya their $100 per bird via hatchery, NOT BREEDER!" but she didn't listen) and doesn't want to buy them buuuuuuuut , if I have enough money to buy them on my own... Just that I'd have to get my sister involved to use her pay pal account (they dont mind if I use my own money but tend to grumble when I use their paypal accounts)

Nope, can't get them then. Mom wants me to stop incubating. WTH? You buy me a incubator, let me use it once, then say NO? OK I understand but still.. (it'll be winter meaning they'll have to be inside house longer)

Sorry Cochin but Sebbies would do terrible. Those feathers don't insulate well at all and they are very vulnerable to temps compared to other breeds

I'm sure you can find them cheaper, they need not be show muscoveys. They are excellent sitters, often hatching out 3 or 4 nest of waterfowl a year. Their eggs also take longer to hatch, so no issues of bordem and leaving the nest like one encounters with chicken hens. They, being waterfowl, are wonderful choices to brood ducks and geese both. Oh, they can take the cold, from what I understand. They like a building with some straw, and maybe a door at night.

I heard they don't take the heat well either. Too bad because I'd love some
