Girls vs Girls

Well, sometimes. If someone doesn't wash the udder, and then milk, then strain and chill immediatly (or pasteurize then chill like i do) it'll taste like an animal. Even cow tastes bad with poor sanitation and improper milking tech. If you feed your goat some good grain and hay, keep her away from weeds, and wash her properly, then condition the old tits afterword so she doesn't have dry flaky udders, its ok. If you let your goat eat anything, weeds, ivy, leaves, branches, then milk tastes like that. If you want it to taste like store milk, you've got to control her diet.

We fed ours oats and milo, plus soybeans and cut up carrots. Sweet yummy milk, happy goats. Oh, they got hay too. I guess you can keep them in milk for almost 18 monthes, if you milk steady day and night, until she's dry. Many people keep just two goats, milk both Feb or March (from Sept matings) through Nov/Dec (2 monthes after mating) freezing enough milk the last 2 monthes to get by the next 3.....

That all makes sense! I might give some serious thought into them next year,

and def make sure she doesnt eat kutzo, no matter how much she break thro the fence (from another breeder it pretty much make the milk

You can really get some great deals in springtime. Some folks sell just freshoned (that means had a baby, and is freshly in milk again) does in spring, and many others sell their does kids. If you want a very sweet pet type, get a bottle girl or two. Bottle feed them togather (use goat milk replacer, a glass coke bottle, and nipples you get from the farm supply - more on that later if needed) a couple of monthes, then raise them togather. Come Aug/Sept, go buy any old young buck (esp. one from a milking mama) or borrow or rent one, breed the does, and sell him 2 monthes later to someone needing to late breed nov/dec. Then, babies come Feb/Mar from Sept. matings. Then, milk your *** off.

kutzo or kudzo, is a rampent weed in the south. Not around here at all, maybe some in TX though, but you'd know if you ad it. Likes warm places that get rain. Grows well where cotten grows.

That doesn't seem nearly as hard as I thought it would be! I could start my own little goat farm

.....and maybe a few llamas

Just googled it. Never seen it before in my life

. Could be because I'm in central Texas.

I don't think we have it, Kev.

You could be a goat lady. But, ask yourself why? Are you gonna eat yogurt and ice cream and cheese? You can feed it to your chickens, they like it. (extra milk) You can use it to raise other youngsters. You can sell extra milk. You can make and sell soap. But, will you use the milk? You might need the protein.
