Sterling, Ok.
Im new to this. My RIR chicks almost 4 weeks old. Trying to tell thier sex but I just dont know what Im looking at. SO what am I looking for.

4 weeks may be too young, but a male would be the leader of the group, and seem more developed, bigger redder comb and wattles. Without a photo to see them it's hard to help you guess who's who.

my RIRs were easy, the roos were VERY slow to feather in, and looked very odd because of it, they will look almost flecked (chick fuzz and dark feathers).

Depending on the mating of the parents, either sex could be slow feathering, so it is not an indication of sex unless you know what the parents were.

Watch the comb. If it is a cockerel, you should be seeing some development by now.

You probably won't be able to tell for certain until they are closer to six or eight weeks old. Look for a bigger, redder comb and wattles. That's a tell-tale sign.

I actually had an RIR that was really slow to feather out. Thankfully, she turned out to be a hen. So don't use the slow-feathering as the only basis for determining if your chicks are roosters.
