Hi, I'm new here! I really have no idea how to use this website. I don't even know how to post anything, I only posted this through a link in the support message. I would really like some tips and instructions on how to use the site so that I can get some help with my chicks!

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

BYC can be a bit daunting at first, but you will get the hang of it.

Start by looking at the top line of buttons....Home, Learning Center, Forums, Coops, Breeds, etc....These will get you around BYC. If you want to post a question about feeding your flock, you will want to click on the Forum button and that will take you to all of our forums. You will scroll down to Feeding and Watering Your Flock and click on that. At the top left, you will see another button that says, Start a New Thread. If you click there, you can ask a question in that forum. This goes for each of our forums as well.

You can scroll through each forum and post in an existing thread too. Or if you have a specific question in mind and want to search our archives, you can do that by typing in say, Bumblefoot in the white search bar beneath all those above buttons and click on search and it will bring up all threads on Bumblefoot.

So just play around with all the buttons and see where they take you. Don't worry if you start a thread in the wrong forum. A moderator will come by at some point and move it to the proper forum.

You can edit your posts after submitting them by clicking on that little pencil in the lower left of the post. If you find something that is very offensive or someone says something to you that you feel is not proper, you can click on that little red flag and a moderator will come have a look see.

Don't worry, we were all new at one point and had to learn how to navigate BYC! :-)

@TwoCrows has given you some great tips for finding you way around and she is spot-on when she says we were all new here at one time, stumbling around trying to figure things out, lol.

Here are a couple more tips you might like:
* See the little emoticon on my post waving at you? There are a lot of those you can find by clicking on the smiley face right above where you type your post. Just click on the one you want to use and it will be inserted where your cursor is.

* If you feel someone has given you some really helpful info (like TwoCrows just did), you can click on the green thumbs up button at the bottom right side of their post (that's called giving someone "ovation").

Hi :welcome Shy

Glad you could join the flock! TwoCrows and NorthFLChick have left some excellent tips and advice for you above. It can be a little scary at first, I know I certainly felt that way when I first joined. I stumbled and bumbled my way round at first. But honestly once you get the feel for things and some posts under your belt you will be addicted!!

What chicks do you have? I have some chicks at the moment too, just 4 of them for now but I've put the incubator back on again and another 28 eggs in this morning. I have 4 polish x Amber link that are 2 weeks old.

Be sure to ask any more questions that you may have about getting around here on BYC. Everyone here to help and very friendly :frow
 
Welcome to Backyard chickens. I promise no one will peck at you, we really like our new members. Lots of shy folks (myself included) get a lot bolder sitting at a keyboard.
 
Thank you for the welcomes! I have one male barred rock, a male silver spangled hamburg, and a male and female black polish. I also have 14 unknown chicks that I ordered from Murray McMurray to eventually accompany the three roosters. I know for sure that one of them is a barred rock, but I'm still very unsure about the rest of them.
 
That's quite a mix you have there. I have polish too, in fact all polish barring 1 Amber link hen. Are you planning on keeping all the Roos? Multiple males in a flock can cause fights to break out over girls. Or are you going to keep the Roos seperate with their own girls?
