Giving guineas away :'(

Pics
I've tried to watch food inc before, but had to stop part-way because it was just so darn upsetting. I hate to imagine what goes in my cat's food, at least he catches his own food from time to time, lol.
Speaking of lyme disease, tick control was the reason I got into keeping guineas in the first place, hopefully the chickens will do a decent job now that the guineas are gone...

It’s an uphill battle for me though when I’m the only one in our family who values local.
This is so true. My mom is into the organic thing, but I believe even that's a hoax. I'll take produce from my local farms over overpriced certificated organic produce any day. But she is hard to convince, and prefers to trust the labels. We're looking to grow more of our own vegetables next year, hopefully it'll convince her that home grown/ farm fresh is tonnes better than anything from the grocery store shelves.

Local and homegrown are the best way to go for many reasons! It’s just a lot of money and work... I made spaghetti sauce from our tomatoes this year. We used 30 lb of tomatoes, many many hours of work, to get 14 pints of sauce!!! :th I’m also pickling guinea eggs and keeping some for us (refrigerated) and giving more as gifts. I have really developed a taste for pickled guinea eggs! We are butchering more chickens tomorrow - hope it goes faster than last time.

I like pickled guinea eggs. They are just the right size for a two bite snack.

That’s how my daughter likes them! I like to slice them and put on a sandwich with Mayo, cheese, and tomatoes (still home grown!). I’m loving the pink ones (sweet and sour) but DD thinks they taste like sweet potatoes and won’t eat them...

I do mine in pickled beets. They do not in any way taste like sweet potatoes.

Oh yes, that’s what made mine red! And I think that the beet flavor infusion is what’s reminding DD of sweet potato, which she dislikes. It doesn’t taste at all like sweet potatoes to me!🤷‍♀️
