(Let's say the afternoon/noonish)
Keith was eating lunch when his phone rang. Having so many customers and potential customers kept his phone constantly ringing, which left Keith wanting a secretary, or at least someone hired to answer the phone and screen calls. But the jobs he took required no physical building, and he couldn't afford to hire anyone but his assistant Rose, whom he only payed when she was with him on jobs. Perhaps she could answer my calls, he thought, but that would cost more money. I gtg

Ava waited for Keith to pick up impatiently.

Sam watched Thomas head into the yard “just toss her the meat and then walk calmly out” Sam called.
Thomas turned to her and nodded gratefully. He admired how smart she was and her ability to calm him down. "Thank you, Samantha. You're-" He was going to say, 'You're the best,' but he wasn't sure how Samantha would take it. Instead, he said, "You're great with wolves." Thomas could feel his face grow warm. Shaking himself, he walked closer to Iora, tossed her the meat, and turned back to where Samantha stood.

“Great. Now we wait” she said simply “I have other jobs to do so I need to go, we will meet back here in half an hour to see if she got knocked out”

Thomas nodded, glancing back at Iora. "I'll go and check on the others -" He began to say when Ava came storming out of nowhere. "Young man! What did I tell you about you only cleaning, and not taking care of the wolves or doing anything else?" She demanded

“Ava. Calm. Down. He was helping me, I enlisted his help and now he is going to go back to work” Samantha explained

"Do you know what he did?" Ava asked furiously. She wasn't really too mad at Thomas. She was mostly mad that Keith hadn't picked up and a wolf had eaten her sandwich. But she needed someone to yell at. "I don't see why you want him around, anyway. It's not like he's good at anything. He's practically useless, for goodness sake! The only thing I see him doing is getting underfoot."

Thomas looked like he'd been slapped across the face. He burned with embarrassment and shame. When he thought about it, Ava was right. He was...useless. Thomas blinked back the tears that threatened to fall.

“Ava” Samantha’s words cut sharply through the air “your lucky I don’t fire you on the spot for saying stuff like that about a colleague. Your creating an unhealthy work environment, I could report you for bully a member of our staff. You have absolutely no say in his job. That’s for me and the board to discuss, the only reason I haven’t fired you on the spot is your a good vet and used to be a loyal friend. Now you may go continue with your job while I have a word with Thomas”
