My chickens are possibly the most spoiled birds in the universe. They have a HUGE run, but they spend the entire day finding ways to get out, despite my carefully grown plants in their run to keep them busy. And one of my chickens, Ponyo, feels that she is entitled to the house and any time we leave the house door open, I look up to find her walking up stairs or sitting on the kitchen table. I love my girls, but seriously?! 🤨

I’ve been keeping my chickens locked up in their run due to that fact it took me five hours to get my cockerel back into the coop when they were free ranging :barnie. They like their run but they still feel like the tree line is their natural habitat. They have a 240 square foot run for 5 chickens, and a 60 sq ft coop, so I think they have enough room.

That sounds bad. I can only free range my four bantams if I’m out there with them, since there’s a lot of hawks around. I usually solve the issue of getting them back into their coop by not feeding them until it’s time to go back in. Fortunately, they’re good at foraging and I usually let them out early, so they don’t get too hungry. XD

:idunnoI have a 900 square foot run for five hens, and still, they are dissatisfied.

They always find ways to escape, and I haven't lost any hens yet in the three years I've had them, but we have some aggressive cougars, bears, coyotes, and bobcats, most of which would happily attack a human with chickens for dessert. I can't tell you how many times I was chased by a pack of coyotes. I know, you're not supposed to run, but when you have a bunch of animals running right at you trying to have you for dinner, it's hard to stand you're ground

My flock is only 11 weeks old, so they can’t fly to the side of the 6 1/2 foot wall yet. We are hoping to get the top on before the rest of them figure out that they can perch on top. Only one of them has figured it out yet, but she hasn’t done it in a while.

When they were chicks they would perch on the sides of their brooder but never jumped out. I don’t know why but I was thankful for it.
