Also in May my order for a dozen female chicks arrived. They sent 13 and 7 turned out to be males.. Last year I was given 19 chicks and 14 were male).

There was maybe 4 or 5 more on those steps but when it occurred to me that they all look like they had gathered for a photo shoot, and pulled out my phone, some decided to be camera shy and walked away from there.

Maybe an unpopular opinion, but mature roosters that you already know are good boys are (to me) a much better bet than raising your own and hoping for the best. Just an observation from my short experience, but it seems that roosters raised with adult chickens are better behaved than when the chicks are raised alone.Maybe an unpopular opinion, but mature roosters that you already know are good boys are (to me) a much better bet than raising your own and hoping for the best. You may be better off!
