GM Foods and what they are doing to us...

Are we ALL willing to bite the bullet and take it to that level?"

I know I know (raising hand) NO........... we want cheap food the way we want it raised and it can't happen unless someone (goverment) subsides it (here comes government regulations that you all love).

The problem with government food producer subsidies is that it is costing everyone more in the end. This money comes from your tax dollars and mine. The administration of these funds costs more than they dole out. It would be far cheaper in the end to get rid of the system if the government was actually willing to adjust taxes accordingly. Which we know they will not do.

No one wants government subsidies or regs.... We've had over 200 years of presidents being elected w/promise of cheap food. Key word is CHEAP.... People scream about their grocery bill, so Ag has been trying to find ways to do it to keep cheap food.

For farmers to stay in business it's all about production and lower costs as the general pop will not pay for what they perceive as quality....

If current farming practices were outlawed, non-chemical foods would be 50% of your income (for average family).

One last thing for those that like to use the EU as a guide line, see Duckie's last post. Also the EU as well as the Asian markets have opportunities to buy non-GMO grains but the costs were higher due to lower yields. They refused. They are even being offered contracts where the premium is very minimal but they won't pay. They talk the talk but won't walk the walk........

I had written something but erased it because I dont think I want to write any more in this thread

Do you honestly believe this? You have got to be kidding!!!! BIG Ag. has been looking for ways to put the little farmers out of farming so that they can totally control the price of food! Check out Con-Agra for one.....NAIS is more or less set up to make it too exspensive for the little guy/gal to be able to raise their own farm animals. Stop and look, read and use common sense and you should see and understand what is going on around you.......later, corn

Play nice folks.

I really don't want to have to close this or spend an evening cleaning it up again.

BTW I'm still waiting for apologies to be posted for behavior on this thread I had to clean up and edit yesterday. It was out of line, far from appropriate on this forum, and offensive to the membership.

Simple question, will you hold ALL companies to the same standards that you hold Ag companies to (& call them shady) and NOT do business with them?

YES. ABSOLUTELY. That is one of the reasons I try to support only small local businesses whenever possible. It is certainly not Big Ag only. Of course it is impossible to avoid giving money to big corporations, but we strive in so many small ways not to. That is a small part of our original impetus to own chickens, in fact!!!

We support local dairies, local printers, local farmers, small independent physicians, try to buy garden plants from local growers rather than WalMart, pay a little extra at local bookstores or kitchen-supply stores rather than order from Amazon or buy at Walmart, buy products from comapnies with exemplary business and environmental practices, etc etc etc whenever possible. My family is in the lower rungs of middle class. We are not wealthy BUT we have decided to prioritize that sort of lifestyle (paying a little more for local and organic) over other things. It is at the expense of: dinners out (we eat in), movies in a theatre (wait till its out on dollar-redbox-dvd), new clothes (we shop second-hand), cable TV (no TV channels at all), and stuff like that. Oh, yes, I certainly DO hold all companies to the same standards, and try hard to avid giving them my business.

I'll apologize for is being passionate in my beliefs that Monsanto has no interest in anything other than lining their own pockets. The family farm is in danger as a result, as is the whole of our food supply, and that of the rest of the world. For getting angry at people defending these despicable methods and posting without thinking I'll apologize.
