Ironic right? I want a Buff Orpington rooster, and of the chicks the feed store is selling some are BO pullets. Which I don't mind of course, and maybe the one I choose will be male, but go figure. Everyone is trying to learn how to sex their own chicks to get pullets, and I'm trying to figure out if there's anyway to get a male! :th Oh well.

Background: M&D just said I can get 3 or 4 more chicks, because I've been responsible so far. My wish list could get long, and the feed store is getting in quite an assortment. I decided though that I could get 2 White Leghorns (I've wanted Leghorns for a long time now!) and 2 BO's (because they're very friendly). And I wanted a BO rooster because of that + he would make good chicks compared to my current Dominique/BCM males. (One of those would probably go, he would be raised as a replacement). The Dominique's chicks are all barred (and I don't mind barred, but all of them!) and the BCM is black so I'm presuming his chicks will have a fair amount of black in them as well.

The chicks are being brought in from AZ because of the Newcaste's disease no-mail zone (not the quarantine!). They are going to be flying in a lot of different breeds (which is incredible because hatcheries were all sold out just a week ago, so these will probably go fast). The delivery is Thursday and/or Friday.

😂 I wish I was that lucky. I ended up with most likely two cockerels instead of the pullets we were dreaming about 🥰
Hopefully they are nice tempered since one can stay. I love the look of lavender Orpington roosters 😊

I just noticed they have Lavender Orpingtons straight run! 25 of them coming in. What do you think? Should I get one? If it's a male, will he make pretty chicks? I think the personality across Orpingtons of all colors are about the same, right? So excited!

Lol. And every time my buff orps hatch they're boys. Which is why I'm not allowed to hatch any more. So typical. I like the buff roosters though. They're nicer than the girls.
Aw, too bad. I really want to get a buff orp roo, but not more than one.

Isn't that the case most of the time? I'll probably pick out one I think looks male and have it turn pullet on me. :p

I would get 3 chicks, and keep the best roo out of them, and hope at least 1 is a roo from a straight run, which it probably will be at least 1 if not all 3. We bought a straight run of 6 assorted chicks, and ended up with 4 roosters. LoL So, the odds are in your favor for a roo!
