Goat and Sheep Shearing - Jeffers has a deal ending next week

I have 2 angora goats and 7 ewes to be sheared bi-annually. We have advertised for a shearing service or shearer and had no results. I even offered to through in a grass fed freezer lamb and couldn't find a shearer locally.

I have asked around and have been hunting and searching. For the very small number of animals we need to shear I opted for the Oster Showmaster shearing machine. I found it on many websites for various prices. Some much higher than others and rididulous shipping pricing.

This morning I found it on Jeffers Livestock for one of the lowest prices. It also is shipping from Jeffers with a bonus PowerMax clipper anf blade as extra. 2 fer 1!

I called Jeffers with a few questions and was quite pleased with the answers I recieved.

I paid cash through paypal and the shearer and clipper is shipping today. The shipping cost from them was dirt cheap too.

I find Jeffers to have good prices most of the time. Sheep shearers are getting harder and harder to find I think in part because it is hard work, hard on ones back to be bent over all day. I took a class and was certified to shear sheep, and did my whole breeding flock when I was in 4-H. I'd like sheep again but don't know that I want to shear them anymore. lol I love the Oster clippers!

I don't mind the shearing of a small flock or herd but it is not something I want to do as a profession. LOL

I saw someone do Llamas and alpacas and I do NOT want to shear them beasts myself!

I am hoping they come by thursday afternoon so we can shear and get finished friday.

We have a ewe that bites! LOL She got mad when we were trying to make her let her lambs suck and when we rolled her back like that she bit us. This will be a real memorable experience for us.

Those shearers are a great deal.. thanks for sharing MP. I, however, do have llamas to shear and Oster shearers just can't do the job - not enough power for a herd of llamas. If I only had goats I'd jump on those.

Hey - shearing day for the llamas is this Friday.. starts at 8:00 a.m..... anyone want to come by and help... just let me know!

Good luck with your shearing. I have angoras and tried to find someone to shear them also with no luck. I started shearing mine a couple years ago. I might not be real fast but I get the job done. I use the same shears and have had good luck with them

Chirpy send me some Llama wool to spin!!!

FG - some people use scissors and snip it off. I am not interested in an all day job. My angoras need a shave as I suspect the nasty boogers brough lice with them from the mountain I got them from! I also have a pour on for them!

MP, Jeffers is great I get almost everything from them. They are an hour away from me and only charge me $5 to ship and I get everything the next morning on UPS. It's great. It's well worth the $5 not to have to drive down there.
