Goat Lovers of Arizona

Ok thank u! Ill have to write all this down before I go to the feed store. Oh and yes I understood about the DE. I've read a lot on it and it seems to be controversial as to whether it works. But no one has said its hurt their animals so I might as well try it! Thank you for your help!

I would personally recommend a conventional wormer to be used, even if you are going to try out DE. Most of what I've read is that it does absolutely nothing for internal parasites (it is fine for mild infection of external parasites). It is likely serendipitous when it does 'work' for internal parasites. A dry, hot climate can help kill parasite oocystes in feces before they can be ingested by another animal, for example, leading to a low parasite load.

Oh I do agree with you Stacykins. DE is used for preventing mostly in larger animals but worming is best but we use a shot wormer. Very affective and makes the goats coats very nice. I wasn't home before but now I know that the shot wormer we use is Ivermec for cattle. My sister said she uses a paste wormer if they are under 8 weeks old tho.

Jeepgirl my sister also said that banding will work for a 5 month old but you must find someone with a calf bander for at 5 months the boys are to big for a baby goat goat bander that she has. I never ask you what breed they are?

Sorry everyone I've been busy. The little girl is a nubian/boar mix and the boy she said was a pygmy, but pointed to a medium sizes shaggy goat with curled horns and said he was my boys dad and would look like him when he grew up so I'm not sure what the boy is. I'll get some pics of them up for y'all tomorrow. Here is one of them in the back of my jeep when I was bringing them home. :)

Yes your little buck does look Pygmy. Cute little girl and I love those Nubians. We have Nubians, One Nubian is crossed with Boer and couple Nubian crossed with Nigerian Dwarfs which makes for a Miniature Nubian and several Nigerian Dwarfs.
How are your kids doing now?

Boer. That's the what my girl is crossed with. Nubian/Boer. They are doing good. I got my fence in my horse turnout goat-proofed, (I hope. Lol) and put him out with my mare so he isn't hassling my sweet little girl any more. I'm thinking about calling her lilac. She's really calmed down since he isn't in with her anymore. She even comes up to say hi now. Her tummy has tucked up a lot. She is really active now, much stronger than she was when I got her, and has grown a lot!!

I got them wormed too. I found a small bag of wormers in pellet form and gave it to them that way. Its been about a week and a half since then and her tummy is not all saggy bloated looking anymore. I also got some goat grain. Its in a bag that says livestock feed, but the tag says its nutrena top goat. Has any one used nutrena top goat? It was all they had in that day. Any suggestions as to a better supplement for them? I eventually want her to be a milk goat so id like to start her off the best I can. Plus a healthy animal on the inside is beautiful and shiny on the outside, and we all love soft shiny animals! ;)

One more question. Got any goat education resources? Websites or organizations I can request or get free information from? I've read a little but none of it said the same thing. Its all quite confusing when you read one thing and another thing tells u to do exactly what the first said.not to. Tomorrow, if I'm not to busy at work, ill upload some pictures of my little girl. You can tell me what you think she needs.

Oh Ya, you said my boy looks pygmy. Do they grow up kinda large and real shaggy? Like maybe 2ft Max at the shoulder with curled horns? Just wondering because id like to know what the male she said was his father is .

Pygmy goats get their growth rather fast and they are the smallest of the goat breeds, I think,. Your girls daddy was probibly the boer. Did the daddy have floppy ears? Both boer and nubian have floppy ears. I have seen buck boers more smooth coated. Look in the internet for goat breeds and see if you can see what you saw when you looked at the daddy goat. I know of a really good forum for just goats. Look up goat forums on google. I learned a lot from them also. I see there is one for just Dairy Goats!

Awesome! I will do that. Its dead here at work anyways. Lol. I was thinking about going to join backyardherds.com since this site is so awesome for my chickens! The girls mom had a smooth coat with long floppy ears and was pretty large. I was honestly surprised at how big these goats were. I've only been around.d pygmys. The dad was about the same size but long shaggy fur and I think his ears kind of stuck out but I don't remember too well. There were A LOT of goats there. Going to Google! Will let u know what I find. :)

Well sounds like the daddy was Alpine or a mix of one. Was he white? Was mother mostly white with a colored head? Your girl is really a 3 or 4 way cross! Should be interesting what she looks like when she is grown up.
