Goats and chickens?

We have an area about 20*24 ft that our chicks are in. They often move over into our 2 acre area with the 2 goats ( one is a pygmy),and a lamb. They all seem to get a long fine. The chicks will peck at the goat feed while the goats are eating and no problems. I think that they might make enough noise to let the chickens know that there is something there, but I don't think they would protect them any other way. Good Luck

Ok thank you, looks like ill be taking them out on leashes by hand to let them play in the weeds

So for the fencing, I read that 20x20 is adaquate space for 2 goats, is this good information? I saw fencing at home depot the other day, I believe it was welded wire, pretty big spaces but not big enough for a goat to stick its head through and get stuck. I think it was 4 feet tall, is that a good height? What would I be looking at for posts?

The only issue I am having so far with my goats/sheep/chickens in the same pen is the goats trying to eat the chicken feed. Trying to come up with a feeder to deter that. Mine are fainting goats which are not as interested in getting out, but most breeds need a very sturdy fence. Our fence is part chain link, part wood slat on 4x4 posts.

We walked ours on a leash for a few weeks but now let them out on their own(with supervision) to check out the weeds. They come running whenever we bring out the feed scoop. Anything for food! Keeps them in the area of the yard we want and away from the road. Goats are great!

Goats and chickens and horses..oh my! I built my horse paddock with non welded , woven horse fence and 4x4 wood posts. It's 5' high. I recieved a toggenburg goat unexpectedly and she went into the same area. I'm glad it's not any lower because when she starts boucing off the barn wall and then a tree, like a ping pong ball, I swear she'll come right over the top. She also rubs along the fence to groom herself, so it has to be sturdy. The space is about 120'x100'.

My chickens freerange in this area, but fit under the gates, so they are not confined to it. The goat is very interested in every noise they make and does run and check it out, but surely would hide if a strange creature were spotted.

When the horses go out onto a grass lot in the evening, the goat gets a walk around the yard and then is tied to a post near the horses. Otherwise she would blat until it drives me nuts. I can see her the entire time. The chickens always end up in the same area.

I wouldn't leave her tied for more than an hour, though. If the horses are out longer, the goat hangs out with me.

Everyone gets along fine:)

My goats and chickens are great together. The goats let me know if anything comes near the pen by "pitching a fit" and running up to the fence where the threat is outside the fence. They are also great at keeping hawks away from the pen. I tie my goats out when I'm home and can watch them but never leave them out otherwise.

I put my chicken feed (laying pellets) in the chicken coop where the goats can't go. Otherwise they share all the feed.

We also put our feed in our coop or the will eat the whole thing! We have 2 acres fenced in with the welded woven wire from TSC just like Lowes and Home Depot, but cheaper. It is 4 ft high. Our chickens fly over fromtheir pen or go thru the gate if it is open into the field with the goats and sheep and then go back to the coop at night to roost.
