Today, I’m meeting with the young lady who will be taking care of my 3 cats and 3 ducks to go over basics. I will write up more detailed notes prior to leaving. My goal is to not come off as a crazy person. However, I’m very particular about how I do things! I’m doomed. She’s going to run for the hills! :lau

Anyways, what would your main pointers be? Weather at the end of the month will, I’m sure, be a bit warmer. I’ll go over my “winter care” today, and let her know that there may be changes based off of the weather!

I would focus on the basics and keep it short and sweet. DO NOT go over winter drill unless she will need it during her "warmer" care period.

She is sure to be excited beyond... You may want to find out if she prefers cats or ducks and then emphasize the care of the one she is less interested in.

Best of luck, enjoy your vaca.

:lau:lau:lau I have to travel for work sometimes - I leave behind my husband, the neighbor AND a pet sitter to care for my cats and ducks. You should see my list - it's insane! I print out a spreadsheet labeled with times and who needs to do what at each time. Then I step back and go - gosh no wonder I"m so tired! The first time I left the ducks I even had things like "whisper good morning softly before opening the door" and "you have to quarter the grape tomato so they don't choke" and "NEVER LEAVE FOOD WITHOUT WATER - THEY WILL DIE!!!" yes in all caps, also bolded, underlined and in red! I'm sure they all talk about me when I'm gone! So no - I don't think bios or anything else is crazy!!!

Me either. I have yet to leave mine in the care of my husband for even 1 night! I already know he doesn't listen so why would I think he would read a list!!:barnie

I try to keep instructions simple.

I left by brother with my ducks for a week recently.
The top of the page said. "No food without water available. Ducks in their run if it's dark, or soon will be. The rest is gravy. "

This was followed by their usual routine.

There's a minimum care they NEED, all the other stuff I do for them they can live without.

We go away in the summer for a week and we have 4 ducks, and we will have about 25 chickens and maybe Pheseants. We have our neighbor come every other day to do the ducks which consist of refilling the pool and feeding them. Then we pop 2 five gallon feeders and 2 five gallon waterers in the coop and that usually lasts them a week, But just in case we have somebody come mid week to check the feed and water, and get the eggs. We will probably do the same thing for the pheasants if they aren't already released. Our pop door is open 24/7, because we never have problems with predators.
