Going crazy here...

I am grateful for my student loans, which let me be the second person on Mom's side of the family to graduate from college. For me, there was no other way-- I got a ton of grants and financial aid, but the loans let me go to a top-tier school where I did very well. I wound up living in some pretty tiny apartments until the loans were paid off, and I very carefully maintained my 15-year-old car, and I paid them all off early because I plowed every extra cent back into the principal. You will have to talk to an actual human being to do this, but it's totally doable.

Also, I have to rant about my dad telling me to feed my chickens scratch in order for them to start laying. SERIOUSLY?!?!?! This is why I can't stand being in this house...I could take their nagging if it's over the phone, but living with 'em makes me want to pull my hair out.

hahaha! I just got a visit from my Dad today, I'm relatively new to raising poultry (I have 8 birds total now) and he had the gall to start telling me how to set up their tub (gee, its not like I've been doing it for the last 7 weeks since they were beginning to feather out or anything)! I then showed him some pictures of chickens that I want to get next year and he said-and I quote- "there are only 2 types of chickens, brown and white". And he wasn't refferring to their egg color either... he thought that chickens were either some shade of brown or some shade of white.... So I showed him pictures...and he still pointed out how every chicken was in some way associated with brown or white coloring... nice try Dad. (its like the dad in big fat greek wedding insisting that all words are derrived from greek-even kimono)

Its in a Dad's mental physiology to speak advice even when they are completely unfamilliar with something we are pretty dang informed about... at least thats how my Dad is. It doesn't stop when you move out or are married...and I don't expect it to cease when I have 5 kids or turn 45! Dads give advice whether you need it or want it or not!

Yes, I am off topic... but what can you do when something resonates?

Yeah, I don't expect them to stop doing that when I'm moved out, either. I'm thankful that they're letting me stay here and that they are willing to help out with part of my loans but still...ranting about our parents is what kids like to do. My dad cares for other kinds of birds but he used to live on a farm and my grandpa has lots of chickens. So I'm surprised that he'd say scratch is enough to make them start laying. I don't want to get into biology with him...after all, my parents primarily speak another language and giving them a biology lesson might not be such a good idea.

Thanks for all the advice. I know that there are people who've paid off their loans, but it's good to feel like a community about the issue.
