Due to constant malware messing up my computer and I know it's coming from Photobucket (lots of chatter on the net about it), I'm going to have to delete both my accounts, containing a couple thousand pics, I think. I filled up one and had to start another. This is years of photo collection. They're all on my computer somewhere, but this will mess up every picture I've ever put on BYC. And trust me, there are hundreds and hundreds!

Any suggestions so I don't have to do this? I have to run Spybot and Malwarebytes constantly and one day, this crud I get from photobucket may tank my computer. I spend most of my online time on BYC and Photobucket and it's only when I start getting pics off photobucket that this happens.

I maintain a photo file on my computer using picassa 3. I then upload onto BYC or delete as needed. I had to many hassles with photobucket. If you don't want to store them on your computer download them on to a cd.
You might want to download your photobucket files onto a CD and then run a cleanup program on that disc. That way you won't loose your photos.

would it be possible to down load you pic's to an external hard drive, clean them, then either put them somewhere else or just keep them on that hard drive.
just an idea, i should ask my DH if that would work he's an IT

What saving your photos from Photobucket onto CDs? I did that on a bunch of them, just right clicked and save as and put it on a disc. I haven't had any problems when I've used Photobucket but I haven't used them much in the past year, maybe just 3 or times. I hope you can save your pics, I lost thousands when my laptop crashed on me.

I like this idea. I think im going to do that. I went threw a laptop harddrive because of photobucket. I put all my photos on expensive flash drives now. Cds would be cheaper && Easier. Anything stored online people love to mess up. Cd;s and flashdrives you cannot go wrong

Picassa 3 is great and is a free download from Google. You can store pictures on the web with them if you want, but all my files are stored on my hard drive and I just use picassa to tweak them. Emailing from picasa is super easy, too, as the program resizes automatically.

One thing I don't rely on is burning my pictures to disk. Even the high quality, archival disks. I have had so many corrupted disks that I just don't trust them - and they only last 5 years anyway. I use an external hard drive for my pics. In fact, I use several so that all my pictures are saved to at least 2 different places. Hope this helps.

All photos are on my computer somewhere already and a large portion of them are already on CD. My problem is that if I delete photobucket, all BYC pics except maybe a couple will disappear from the forum. And if I leave the photobucket acct open but don't go back, they'll inactivate them and that equals the same thing. Makes me nuts! Guess I need to upload more to BYC, but no way I can put as much as I need to on here. I am so used to Photobucket, it will take me ages to learn something like snapfish or flickr.

Just watched a video on Picasa 3. LOVE that one! Thanks for the suggestion! I am working on a personal website, but it will be awhile before DH and I can finish it. Still, the pics I've uploaded from photobucket will disappear from BYC unless those folks fix the issues they've been having and I can access it again.

Hi, Cyn!

Just how is your machine being compromised by Photobucket? All I could find reference to was their having hosted click through banner ads infected with trojans (never click on ads/never open attachments, etc.). Have been using photobucket without a problem. Would hate to have all your fine shots red Xed. Maybe there is a way for Rob to replace the links with the actual images (should be some backend method of stripping).

What are you using for firewall/antivirus? Comodo, etc.? Do you also run CC cleaner?

There are many methods of beating down this BS on Windoze machines (do it about once a month on daughter's/grandkids).

PM/email will be around this week.

John, I run CCleaner, Malwarebytes, Spybot every couple of days. Use AVG security and Windows Firewall. Every time I access photobucket, I get malware messing with my computer and I never click banner ads.

I didn't realize that Picasa3 cannot be used like photobucket, but I love that program over Irfanview right now and wish I could. I cannot upload all I have to BYC, just impossible.
