Going to Have to Delete both Photobucket Accounts, I Think.....sigh

The simple solution. Use Mozilla Firefox instead of IE. I never have any pop-ups and in fact it even eliminates the BYC banners! (Nifty doesn't like me saying that so keep it quiet

)

I haven't had a error code in over a year. When I was on IE I had so much spyware and popup blockers running that it made my computer as slow as a snail!

I've often wondered what forums like this would look like if photobucket shut down. Lots of information lost...

The first thing to try is resetting photobucket password and the email addy associated with the account. That is the usual point of entry. I'm also assuming your browser's pop-up blocker is on.

I'd also suggest using an alternate browser. If you continue to experience the same problems then it is probably time to download and run Hijackthis. Photobucket itself is fine, so far...

If something managed to get installed without your being aware of it another very small, useful, program to augment security is CodeStuff's Startup : http://codestuff.tripod.com/products_starter.html
It
is free, allows one to examine what programs, etc. are being loaded at startup, and allows one to kill them if they are unneccessary or rotten...

Just excised a keylogger from the kid's machine last week...

Thanks, guys. I've downloaded Firefox and will be trying it to see if the same things happen.

***so far, so good. I also added 1 gig of memory to my computer today and everything is much faster. Now, to see if I still get the malware stuff. Will be fabulous if I don't have to dump photobucket!

Getting slightly off topic, but Firefox has so many cool add-ons. I have the weather on the bottom of my screen, email alerts, and I think they are called Skins. What ever they are called, it's a background theme. My theme is metal. The backdrop is diamond plate pattern and my buttons (home, reload, etc) are really industrial looking.

I think you'll love it. IE is soooo popular because it comes with every computer so it's also the most hacked/manipulated OS out there.

I heard that Internet explorer was having security threat issues so maybe it isn't photo bucket at all and it is internet explorer. Has your computer downloaded any security updates lately?

I've used photobucket for years and while it's full of ads on the page, I've never gotten malware actually ON my computer from it. I've used it with multiple computers over the years and nary a problem.
I've used both IE and Firefox over the years, switching whenever I got fed up with one (currently I'm on IE8)

I tried Flickr for photos, but you can't share them properly from that site so don't go there.

Nowadays a lot of times I send pix from my Blackberry directly to Facebook and use the links from there in my IMG tags, so I don't have to dig out the camera cable and upload to the computer THEN to the net.

I agree, it's extremely unlikely that photobucket.com is your problem. Single websites do not usually have that much control over your computer (but there are always exceptions).

Cyn can you do a CTRL-ALT-DELETE and bring up your task manager? Sort by Memory and take some screen shots. This will show all the programs and processes that your computer is running and would help to figure out what is causing your troubles. The more we use our computers the more 'cluttered' they can get. Identifying what is running and what doesn't need to be on your computer is really helpful, deleting old and unused programs and processes frees up a good amount of CPU. Everything benefits from a good 'spring cleaning'

I was starting to get a little concerned for my own puter when I saw your thread. I also use Photobucket, although not to the extent you do. I haven't been experiencing any issues. That may very well be because I use Foxfire also. Over at Mozilla they work hard to keep our puters safe.

I also noticed there was a big difference after I switched to Foxfire. I just wish I could convince everyone in the family to quit using IE on this puter.

As far as the add-ons go, there's even feedback on each of the the apps so you can decide if its worthwhile or not. One fun thing they have is an app to change your browser to a holday theme, like Christmas.

When you first start using Firefox it will seem super slow. Be patient. It gets quicker each time you visit a site and will soon be quicker than IE.

Thank-you to all you technology minded people to help out on here. I'm soaking it all in.

My DH runs all sorts of cleaners, etc, on my computer. I was always clearing cookies and temp files, but didn't help much. We were running spybot and malwarebytes every other day, it seems. I was wondering if it was really photobucket or a combination of IE and my slow computer causing the bog-downs, though I was constantly getting malware warnings. I go to few sites other than BYC and my online photo hosting site and seemed the malware was coming from photobucket. DH has done what you said, Alice, and eliminated lots of startup processes that were causing issues. So far, I've been in both photobucket accts and no issues, so maybe the Firefox will make my life easier. Will just have to take some time getting used to navigating it. Seems very fast. Thanks so much, you guys! Will let you know if things are going downhill again. Such a relief that I may be able to continue to use my online albums!

I've never had Photobucket virus problems and I use Firefox! My Photobucket problems were all spam problems so I blocked them!
