Going to Jackson/Ridgeland MS this weekend. Where to stay? What to do?

My DH and I are going on a road trip and will end up near Jackson/Ridgeland Mississippi area. We will be there around Noon on Saturday. Would like to go out to eat and enjoy some live music (not heavy loud music but live bar music so to speak). I am not familiar with the area at all -- is there a lake or river near by. Also, where would be a nice place to stay but not real pricy.

What kind of city are these -- Like Atlanta, GA? What is the main attraction to these cities.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Hmmm.... I only go to Jackson in February for the dixie national livestock shows they host every spring, and stay at a hotel right next to the arena. The city has alot of agricultural/livestock events, but I've honestly never eaten or stayed anywhere in Jackson that just wowed me.

If it works into your plans, you may want to head up to the Beau Rivage or over to New Orleans.
