Going to washington DC in 1 week!

Well this years field trip im going to washington DC!My parents had to pay $612 and ive had to get really good grades in school so im acceptable to go.Were going to be staying there for 3 nights and 4 days.Ive been waiting for this all year!Were going to see most of the landmarks and the great thing is we got to pick who we would room with and im in the same room and bus with my friends.And good bye druggies at the school since there to lazy to even get good grades to go.Has anyone here been there?How was it like?

I've been there! While at school, I'm only about 2 1/2 hours away, but my family used to make the 5 hour drive each year from North Jersey for the Police Memorials. They actually might be going on soon! I used to love seeing all the landmarks when I was little and I remember there were these big metal lions at the memorial grounds that we used to sit on. LOL

I'm sure you'll have lots of fun! Will you be visiting the holocaust museum? I went there for a college field trip and it was simply amazing. Very sad and humbling, but definitely worth seeing. I know they also have a ton of other museums too!

We live a couple of hours south of DC. My last visit was a couple of years ago, when my daughter's class had a field trip to the Holocaust Museum. The shoes will get to you.

The Smithsonian is also pretty cool, and you should be there for the cherry blossoms to be blooming. Beautiful! DC in the spring is nice - not so great in the summertime!

I was there back in 2006 for about a day with my dad. We were coming back from New York *shudder* and stopped for the night there. The monuments are awesome, if disturbingly temple-like. Smithsonian is really cool, too. If we ever go again, though, I'd probably end up blockading Congress with a mob I stirred up.

Lincoln Memorial, Air and Space Museum and the War Memorials are my favorites. Enjoy the history.

I went with my school about a year ago. i had to pay my way.

First of all, everything will look bigger in person exept for the white house, it will look smaller. Capotal Hill is harder to walk up than it looks.

Yes, the holacost mueseam is VERY moving. Don't buy all the nicky naks with the money you got, save for it for meals since the pre-set tour company allounces usaully don't cut it( I like my food so it might not apply to you). If you going to the old post office make sure you choose to go to the top. Its pretty cool. And chance are you will get yelled at by a crazy food lady trying to sell you sanwhich while your there. I guess shes pretty famous among people who go to DC. I was talking to a mom of someone who went to dc who went to a different school and she said how her son metioned the lady.

Be prepaired to WALK a lot. Sounds like you got some good roomies. I joined another groop out of desperaion to not get stuck w/ certain people. Had to sleep on floor since there was only two beds

I could go on and on and on and on, well you get the idea.

Most important thing is have fun.

My oldest daughter went there with her Safety Patrol from school last year. She had a blast

I went in October for a work conference and was able to fly DH out to spend a few extra days. Make sure you bring comfortable walking shoes! We probably walked at least 10 miles a day. You can't tell from any photos or video how huge and expansive the National Mall is. It's gigantic!

The Natural History Museum was my favorite. The Hope Diamond was there along with an entire display of crown jewels. The Museum of the American Indian was also great. There was a bunch of work by an artist who made common everyday stuff into traditional tribal art (totem poles out of golf bags, weavings out of basketball jerseys, etc).

Make sure you take the subway at least once, just for fun. I was amazed at the architecture. It's REALLY deep in some places, the escalator seem to go on forever and ever.

Food is expensive, plan accordingly unless you are eating at fast food (but please don't

)
