I'm getting 4 to 6 gold partridge brahmas.... How much space do they need for a coop & run? I was thinking about fencing in a big part of my back yard & letting them free range my whole back yard during the day... Also my back yard is all rock & gravel. Should I remove the rock and does anybody think it would be messy to leave the rock in the yard?

You can always spray poop off of gravel but chickens really appreciate sand to dustbath in. For each Brahma I'd recommend 2.5ft by 2.5ft per bird, per living space. You should have plenty of room for them, each having lots of room to scratch around. I'd also fence your birds really well and keep them off of you back porch because chickens love porches and decks.

I will fence everything in up to my carport & back porch.... Gonna build a run in case I go out of town but they can run the whole back yard fenced in part during the day while I'm at work.... As for the sand I've already got a sand box all I need to do is load it back up with a little more sand....

Should I fence the top of the yard off? My cousin said these birds are to big for hawks to get during the day.... He's had brahmas for 3 or 4 years & only had one eaten by a hawk & it was a fairly young bird... The ones I'm getting are almost 7 months old....

The fully grown Brahmas won't fly over or get picked by a hawk but you might want to fence over for your young birds and you might even get different breeds down the road.

I'll probably just fence in the back yard like Fort Knox & build a good coop with a swing set run & if I decide to add another breed ill fence in the top......

Cool .... How bout some pics of your coop...;-) I've got 4 gold partridge brahmas.... They are very pretty & really gentle... I've only got one flighty bird out of the four & she's not really that bad ....
