Gold Laced Orpington- For Learning and Sharing

Pics
What a Huge, Pretty boy!

Thanks so much!

pretty..

how is he doing?
You have green grass..I am jealous and so are my chickens..
the grass here is buried under a few feet of snow.
He's fine and I'm raising some of his babies now. They are really nice too! I love the grass....but I hate to have to mow this time of year....LOL Our grass dies in the summer time.....yours dies in the winter.....LOL

With the bad hawks this year and hard culling, I am wintering fewer Gold Laced than planned. I do have some really nice prospects coming up. A pictures of a few..

She did not like me taking her out in the cold for a snap shot..pure stink eye..

She is growing really nice..her sister is a feather eater and has her back chewed off pretty good. Her sister eats every ones feathers so I take her out once a day and give her more meat. She has stopped for now..so I hope it continues.

My feather eater..I might call her ...Feather...she weighs more and is a bit larger..both are growing well. She is so nervous for an Orpington. Flighty too.
I no longer have the brother..He was a horrible eater and no matter what I tried i could not get him to eat enough. I just culled him last week. He weighed half of what the girls did and was much taller.

All his organs were good..no worms..no mites, no lice..but I found a growth on the side of his crop..poor fella I do not think he could eat any more than he was eating. The growth was cutting off food supply. It did not look or feel cancerous. it was just a mass of fatty fibers. I wish I had culled him earlier. I think it was starving him. Guilt and selfishness is a horrible burden. I wanted him to live and forced him to do so for way too long. I forgot my *thrive* not just *survive* motto.

I insist on pictures of the babys..get posting..
LOL.....okay....I'll take some more pics and post them. Your babies are cute......I think you're right.....that little one is giving you some serious stink eye! Don't beat yourself up about the cockerel that you had to put down. We've all been there. I hate to let go of mine and cry like a baby when I do.
