Just bought myself 4 Pekin chicks, 2 lav pullets and 2 ‘gold laced’ pullets, she also gave me a free one but I’m 99% sure he’s a cockerel.

So, my two ‘gold laced’ pullets. One looks more black and gold barred, two look buff? They don’t look gold laced and neither does the cockerel. One of the pullets and the cockerel look the same, the other looks barred? Is this normal or... are they mixed colour?

Ugh I will be so annoyed if they are!! She told me she’s been culling out the cockerels. I told her I can’t keep them. But I said I will wait a couple of weeks if that’s easier. She insisted it’s fine, they’re girls.

And yes, I agree on the crests, at first I thought they may be Polish as she does breed GL Polish, but I saw the feathered legs. Maybe her Polish cockerel mated a Pekin?

I didn’t pay much for them, only £25 but that’s not really the point. I’ve bought dozens of her hatching eggs before and they’ve always been true to the breed and she’s always given me extras or replacements for empty eggs, so I do/did trust her. Even if they are cockerels, I expected pure breeds.

I will raise them for a few more weeks and take a look then. She said I can take cockerels back to her for my money back but what do I say about the 3 mixes? I have limited space and love Pekins, so I want Pekins, not mixes.

They're pattern is typical for Gold Laced cross.

I just asked for pictures of her GL Pekin breeding stock, not sure I’ll get a reply tonight but really not happy. I don’t understand why they would be mixes. If they were Polish I could probably sell them to my friend but mixes, pullet or not, are worth no more than £1 in my area.
