Need help Sexing these two cuties. There were three different “styles” of Golden 300s. Some solid brown with white on their bills. Some kind of brown/yellow mixed like these two, and then some dark black/bright yellow striped - stark contrast. I’m *hoping* I got girls. The lady at the store (who is VERY knowledgeable but hasn’t had this breed before) said she thought these were the girls and the starkly contrasted ones were the boys. But I’m worried I should have gotten the solid brown ones instead.

I hate to tell you but the way I understand it is black is boy, brown is girls, no matter the pattern. It is the sex-linked brown allele which makes them able to be sexed.

Any updated guesses? They are 7 weeks old and still have their baby voices. They are slightly larger than my grown Khaki Campbells.

Awesome! And yours came sexed as females? What are the lighter colored ducks? They’re pretty!

@akf93 have yours molted yet? Right now they look like females but most ducks look like females before they molt and then grow their actual gender's plumage. Also if you hear quacking, that's a female. If you hear a lower raspy voice, it's a male.

Yes they were ordered as females, the lighter colored ducks are Buff ducks 3 male and 3 female. Started out as 4 males but one died soon after arrival. I will keep one male and the other 2 will go in the freezer/dinner. And no they have not molted yet. Also the G300's have already started quacking.

Thank you, it is an old 1000 gallon water tank a neighbor was going to throw away as it had become brittle on the top half and had a few cracks in it, so I sawed off the top and have been using it as a brooder ever since. Will post more pics when i get a chance.
