Golden comet sex links?

hi,,,thankyou for the info,,you say, cant use sucessfully in a sex link cross,,,,meaning?,cant tell the sex at hatching?.

also,,at what age do cockrells start mating,,i have a RIR cockrell 6 months.
Not sure quite what you mean. If you read all of the posts in this thread they tell you what mixes will produce what chicks. A 6 month old cockerel can start mating. He may be clumsy at first but will improve with practice.

These are Red Sex Link Chicks and some RIR chicks. The lighter buff chicks are the RSL females and the more white color chicks are the RSL males. The darker chicks are RIR chicks.

hi,,im not overly bothered about sexing at 1 day old,,,so i could use RIR,,and white leg horn?,,i just thaught they would produce excellent layers,, ;)

You can breed them but they won't be Sex Links and no telling what the chicks would turn out like. If you do keep us posted. I don't have any leghorns but if I did I would try just to see what the cross would look like.

will do cmom,,,,i havent even started yet..so it will be some time,,lol.

surely this cross will m ake good egg layers,,so i think i,ll try it. ;)

I did the cross.

RIR ( male) x leghorn . Chicks will be white or white with black specs.. Adult males will be white or white with varying amounts of red expressed in the hackles, back and wing bows. Female could be white or white with red on head, hackles and breast.

Leghorn (male) x RIR Chicks will be white or white with black specs. Adult males same as above. Females will be white.

I sold the pullets so do not know about laying ability but would say they are good layers.

cheers Tim,,,,i am currently living in thailand,,(so not sure about quality, and ancesetory of the chickens here) but the bloke said my hen and boy were 100% RIR,,the young cock looks ok,,he is red dark red, looks the right colour,,no tail feathers as yet,,they are 6 months old,,but the young hen,,she isnt red,,i was told as the boy,she is 100% RIR,,but she looks more like a light coloured red,,golden comet like.

looks ok in body tho,,,,no pictures,,will take soon and post,,,as they are at my wifes mums farm,,so havent been there in 2 weeks,,,.

also,,she hasent layed, but i suppose its the stress of moving, being picked on etc.

a big rooster started a fight with my young cockrell,,he gave it a good go back,,but then gave up and hid under the house the rest of the day,,seems ok tho,,i reckon as he gets bigger,he,ll have go back,,lol.

so,,any theories on my girl from what i have said,,can RIR,hens be a light colour,,or is she a cross?,,pictures when i next go to see them,,cheers,,craig

She could be a production red which is lighter in color.

Here are some standard RIR's

Here are some Sex Links. White Plymouth Rocks hens with the silver factor are crossed with a New Hampshire male to produce the Gold Comet, similar to these.

These are RSL's and Heritage RIR's.

yes, my young hen looks like the oes is your 2nd pic,,,,was told she was RIR,,but there are alot of liers aroud too.

are these your chickens?

Yes, these are some of my birds. I have around 300, BO's, RC RIW's, SC RIW's, Sex Links, Heritage RIR's, standard RIR's, ISA Browns and some Production RIR's.
