Maybe that's why TheTwoRoos could come across as uncaring to some people, because he's a boy. Since we are girls we naturally nurture and love with all our hearts. He was just loving them like a boy, they are naturally more protectors and sometimes more rational about these things than girls are. We tend to follow our hearts instead of our knowledge and wisdom, well at least I do.

Yeah,ok,I do to.

Also does anyone hever had a hen with hardly ib chest feathers that never grow back.

We had a chicken who lost all those puffy feathers on her little bottom that didn't grow back for two years, then the next year during her molt she grew them all back. Also a lot of bald chickens because they steal to much cat food, no matter where we put it they always find it! But it goes back in the molt. I would just say make sure we has enough nutrients to grow those feathers back, especially during the next time they molt. During their molts try feeding your girls Chick starter since it has more protein it will help them grow back beautiful full plumage. But even though they don't usually lay during a molt you should make sure they always have oyster shell and calcium free choice during the time they are off layers feed so they also have plenty of calcium to get laying again after the molt.

we dont feed our hens layer pellets. We have ducks roosters and usually we mix chicks in with them.

Hmm, I would just say to make sure they have enough protein in their diet and especially since you aren't feeding them layers feed make sure they have enough calcium also. If they need some extra calcium yogurt is a great treat to feed them. Maybe you could try looking up threads about this here on Backyard Chickens or try making your own thread. Sorry I can't be more of a help!
