Golden Comets...

I am raising some Golden Comets on the recommendation of someone on another thread. I got them from Cackle.

Just out of curiosity--does anyone know what they cross to get these?

So far they are doing very well. They are growing fast, they are not pecking, and they seem fairly calm.

A page I found on Google says it's a Rhode Island Red/Leghorn mix. Though the same page talked about Americana chickens.

I currently have one Gold Comet. She is friendly and a great layer. I hope to get two more in April.

I have a couple of Golden Comets and what I was told is they are a mix between a New Hampshire Red and a White Plymouth Rock. Mine are 3 weeks old.

cackkle sells 3 type of red sex links and I ordered the brown layer special and got all 3 last may. They diffently are from different breeds. the red star pullets are red with some brown in the tail feathers and are about a pound heaver than the others. I have 5 of these. They remind me of New Hamp. I have 2 hens that are dark red with a white, red collar and some white in the tail they are different and probably cinnamon queens then I have 12 golden comets, these birds are red and white, thier under coat feathers are white, they are smaller by at least a pound than the other birds. I believe that they have some white leghorn in thier parentage but all cackle says is that thier red sex links are a rhode island red and delware cross. What ever the cross you are going to have great chickens in your hen house. Mine lay large dark brown eggs and the started laying at about 24 weeks of age. They were hatched May 18 2009 and have layed very well all winter now that the days are growing longer production has picked up to about one egg a day.
If I was buying more pullets I would buy cackle's Golden comet. They are a small bird which I want because I have to keep mine penned because of dogs and they are a quite bird not flighty at all. The eggs they lay are very large so no matter what the parents are golden comets are hard to beat.

Is a Golden Comet the same as a Red Sex Link? If so, I know someone who uses a RIR rooster crossed with a Delaware hen.

I have three that are 2 years old in May and 10 that will be one in May,the mother is a white rock and the father in a new hampshire .they are great layers bare confinement well and do very well in the cold weather.They lay a big brown egg

this is the way I understand the question , is a golden comet the same as red sex link? A golden comet is a red sex link but a red sex link is not necessary a golden comet, as in a ford is a car but a car is not necessay a ford. The golden comet is a name some hatchery has given their red sex links. Cackle has 3 type of red sex links, Golden comet, Cinnamon queens and Red star sex links, they are all red sex links but with different parents in their line.
