The story of the birds I've blended to get what I've got is here:
https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=100261

which last time I looked has 12 pages of this and that lots of it OT too. Gosh if I had to stick to being serious about chickens I'd show horses again!

Oh that was my answer to what happens if two animal loving people get to many animals. I am in the process of learning how to slaughter and butcher animals so thats what I was talking about. The miss comunication wasn't age based it was me jumping around topics. Those are beautiful horses they are amazing I rode for the first 12 years of my life. Pasofino's are amazing horses and they are so beautiful. I would love to take up riding again some day!

Ahhh, yes! DH and I are both animal lovers but we eat extra chickens, cows, pigs and rabbits as well as eggs and milk. Last year when Irazu died I thought how sad to bury him when he would have made fresh organic food for my dogs for a year. Many people thought I was heartless for saying it but he would much rather have given back to the farm that loved and nourished him then feed the worms I am sure, he was a gentle and wise soul.

It was not to be however as nowhere in Texas processes horses, Period!

Sorry if I have creeped anyone out.

I agree that it was much better to use extra and not waste at all. At the farm I work on they butcher and process all their own meat so I am ready to learn about that it should be great! Your place is like my dream. I want to farm full time but if that is not possible because of money and other things I would love to have a fairly large hobby farm.

I agree with you and I teach my kids it is all farm life and "what ever happens happens for a reason" not that I am happy always like this past week when my faorite frizzle roo fell into the duck tank and drown.....

Anyway I LOVE YOUR BIRDS and all your animals and enjoyed the tour it was abosolutely wonderful, Thanks!

I sure hope to get some of your eggs or chicks this Spring when we are making a trip your way.

I milked goats for 10 years.
Their milk does taste different but not bad.
Nubians make the best flavored milk due to the higher butterfat.
I highly recocommend them as they aren't as aggressive as some of the Swiss breeds and they aren't climbers/jumpers like the Swiss breeds.
To get good flavored milk th main thing is to:
1. Keep the udder clipped
2. Wash the udder before milking
3. Waste the first few streams of milk
(which are highest in bacteria/give to barn cats)
4. Milk into a half moon covered stainless steel milking
pail made for dairy goats (its shorter)
5. Strain the milk thru a milk filter.
I put mine in a funnel you use to fill canning jars.
6. Stain into a 1/2 gallon or quart mason jars.
7. Set in ice water until chilled.
8. Since you get fresh milk everyday theres no need to drink anything but todays milk and feed the rest out to you pets and livestock or make yogurt with it.

I've served goats milk unknowingly to guests who never asked what it was or remarked about its flavor so you know goats miok isn't that different.

Commercial goats milk in stores isn't as good as fresh on the farm.
Goats milk is wonderful for babies and seniors who have allergies to cows milk or digestive issues.

I have got to share this, 10 out of 13 eggs hatched. Great hatch rate. Thank you so much!
Beautiful chicks, 2 looks like silver cuckoo- maybe gold tone will come out later, one is very light in color, could that be a rooster?
