I want to develop a breed of fowl that has the characteristics of Rocks, but with the Golden Cuckoo color. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to start? Also, does anyone know if something like this already exists?

barred Rock over Buff Rock should give you Buff Barred which is simillar if not the same as Golden cuckoo.

I am going to get picky here so forgive me. But I think what your title should have said was Golden Barred Rocks. That is if that is what you were really after.

The cuckoo pattern is not the same as the barred rock pattern. Its color is even a bit different in the the white is more off white where the barred rock is more a pure white. Cuckoo is also more off centered barrred than the Barred Rock pattern.

I want them to look very much like Golden Cuckoo Marans, but with the characteristics of Rocks.

I've often considered a Golden Barred Rock. Be a pretty bird. In my case I'd hate to see a rock lose the barring in preference for cuckoo.

Barring in it's best expression really takes generations of good selection for proper crisp bars. While I love the barred or cuckoo golden birchen birds, I would be sad to see a rock line lose it's barring to cuckoo. A lot of people have worked very very hard to create barring from cuckoo.

I bet a golden barred rock would be every bit as pretty as a golden cuckoo maran. Possibly more striking if the barring is good.

OK can you list what you mean by Rock characteristics? I mean you would have light brown eggs since that is the rock egg color but what else are you looking for? Just want to clarify that is all.

I want clean featered yellow legs as well. By the way, does anyone have pictures of golden barred rocks?

Thanks everyone for your help!
