Chica-mom
In the Brooder
Hi There -
I'm a new chicken mom, thanks for letting me join the hen house.
I'm a chica mom to 9 beautiful hens, we got when they were a week old, they hatched 11-18-25 -
1 ISA brown, 2 Buff Orps, 2 barred Rock, 1 Silver laced Wyandotte, 1 Leghorn hybrid, 1 Midnight Majesty Maran, 1 blue Australorp
It's amazing to see how fast they grow up. I'm also a Mimi to 11 grandkids, a mom to 1 daughter and 4 bonus daughters and wife to one pretty special man. We live about 20 min from Galveston, Texas and about 45 min southeast of Houston, Tx in a rural area, no HOA and neighbors are about 1/2-acre distance between. We are blessed!
My husband has been bugging me for years to get chickens, and my answer was always NO - because I didn't want another thing to take care of -he worked out of state a lot... now that he is retired - I still work for now, I said yes. I think I'm more attached to them than he is. I walk out and call CHICAAA's and they all come flying and running out of the coop towards me... We will let them range in a 75' x 75x fenced area eventually, but for now they have a portable coop/run and are secure.
I'm learning a lot about caring for them properly from this group, so thank you all for the education!
