Golden Laced Orpingtons

I'd agree, there are some beautiful Orps in Netherlands & Germany.

Many of the colours once found in Orps in Britain died out in the UK. Those colours are not in the British Standards.(or weren't when I moved away). Colours such as the red, jubilee, partridge etc. etc were re-introduced to UK relatively recently, from Germany, maybe Netherlands sometimee between 5 & 10 years ago. Around the same time the gold laced were introduced, I thought from Netherlands, but maybe Germany & elsewhere too. The lavenders were developed in UK, I think it was Patricia Middleton made those (but I may have misremembered) from a blue leghorn,. The mottleds, though available in Germany (& Netherlands?) were also re-created in UK shortly after.....(2004/05?). Many people were working on projects. I made some black mottled, blue mottled, blue partridge, silver pencilled, blue silver pencilled, buff cuckoo, in UK around that time. I've tried to make some colours again over here but it is not easy to find the 'right' birds with which to start.

Hey Joel--any ETA on my trade eggs, yet? My cochins are due to hatch this week--then I'll have an empty 'bator for them! Thanks!

I am very interested in maintaining a breeding flock.... I have plenty of room for chickens, and would like something beautiful. I have Buff Orpingtons on order, so will see how they do up here, but should be fine. (I've had chickens before, but it's been a while.)

I have 20 years of experience in dog breeding, so, while I've never bred chickens, I should know *something*, especially about type.

Do you want to sell it? I am sure there are some working on the Orp projects that would love to use that single comb bird. I believe the Wyandottes have yellow skin don't they?. The Orps have white. There is a difference in the body type also.

Thanks for the answer.

I'd be happy to part with it, but that probably wouldn't be very practical as I am in CA and most people are not.

I actually have two of 'em now and sold the third one a while back. I don't think they're that much of an anomaly...they were just hatchery birds...3 of 15 GLWs had single combs.

There are a lot of dog people and horse people here. It's a beautiful rural place to live. There's a horse trainer a couple of lots north of me, and a sporthorse trainer on the corner.

You're in Anza, huh? One of my really good friends from college trains horses down there...
