Golden Laced.......what?

So is it possible to still breed and possibly not have the single comb? If I bred them would there be a possibility of some of the chicks not having the single comb but the rose comb like they are supposed to have?
If they all have single combs (rr) then all the chicks will have single combs also.

He's a cross bred, and I would be willing to bet that he has Wyandotte and Rhode Island Red in his background judging by his back, tail and the Mahogany Wing Bow.

If he and the hen both have Single Comb and at least on of the parents of these birds was pure for Rose comb then you should get some Rose Comb chicks.

I would say you have yourself a hatchery quality Gold Laced Wyandotte. Hatcheries infuse their 'laying' lines with different high production breeds from time to time, which kicks random genetics in down the line (ie, you get a random straight comb).

He's pretty, but if you want to start breeding GLWs, unless you want to be set back for years, don't use him. Always start with the best stock you can get ahold of. It's kind of self-defeating to take a genetically messy bird and try to purify his line.

Thanks for all the help. I am up in the air what to do with these 3 birds. The hen got really sick on me this winter. She still isn't right. She has no balance. I have become attached. I will probably get read of all of them. It's just too bad that this genetic thing happens. They are really nice chickens.
