Hi, i was wondering if anyone had a golden retriever stud in Wisconsin or Iowa? I have a golden she is over 1 year old, she will be on her second heat cycle soon. Now she isnt AKC, or CKC registered, but her dad was and the breeder didnt register the puppies. We would do genetic/health testing, also a brucellosis test and get her OFA certified. And get clarification she is okay to breed.

Your pup needs to be at least 2 years old before she can be OFA certified. Here is a good place to start with health testing- Golden Retriever Health Panel

Ok thank you we didnt plan on breeding her till closer to 2 years anyway. We are just looking for a stud now. So we have one lined up.
You might want to hold off on making any plans until after screening, after all that's the whole point, testing before breeding ;)
Unfortunately Goldens are prone to multiple different health issues.

She will retrieve anything. I have trained her to hunt just not the gun part of it yet. And lots of scent work. She is very smart to i can list all her tricks if you want me to.
That’s good! I’m sure she is! And she’s still young so there’s still time. But I’d definitely consider trying to get some sort of official titles before breeding if you do but yeah.

We were going to. We have somone who will breed with us if all the test comes back good. There pup is AKC registered and the fee is $1000 dollars for the breeding.

What do you mean by official titles?
Most kennel clubs have titles for sports and hunting and stuff. You compete in a contest and qualify for various titles if you get enough points. It’s a way to prove the dog before breeding and also just fun. They also have ones for conformation but since she’s not registered she can’t do that one but she could do the others. You can sign up with PAL or similar and earn titles. They have ones for tricks too so she could earn trick dog titles. Although I would also try for hunting trials or agility, obedience, rally, something like that. It’s fun and would help prove she can work in a official channel. She may even like dock diving! That is a really fun one as well.

Here’s both AKC ones and UKC. For AKC She’s purebred so would probably qualify for PAL but listing both just in case.
