Golf ball time

I leave fake eggs / golf balls in the nests all the time. Think it helps keep them from deciding to try hiding nests and helps prevent egg eating from starting.

Golf balls are often put into the nest to encourage young pullets to lay in the right place. So I would put the golf balls in the nest boxes (maybe 1-3 in a nest) when your pullets are about 16 weeks of age. If they start laying before then, and are laying in the right spot, you can still put the golf balls in the nests, though it probably isn't necessary. Leave them in as long as you want--I still have fake eggs in my 2 1/2 year old hens' nest boxes.
