Gone without a trace

2 of our beloved RIR have gone missing today while free ranging-- Carmella and Dax. No feathers, no sign...

I put the 3 others into the run, but I feel horrible. I never should have gotten so attached...

Sorry about your girls. No sign sounds like a fox (depending on your location). It is easy to grow fond of these `prey' animals, so range them when someone is around. Also, if you are on acreage start walking patterns out from their favorite areas (where they might have been taken), if it was a fox they'll either have cached the hens (or will eat them in one place - feathers) or taken them to their den (usually on south facing hillside or base of big snag (dead oaks/etc.) and it will usually be within a few hundred yards of where the birds were eaten (stashed/grabbed).
