Depending on what size stuff you're starting with and what you plan to spend:  I have a little electric 5 ton DR that's extremely powerful, portable, and sits right on my tailgate.  I got it over 5 years ago for about $400, and it shipped free.  It says it will handle up to a 10" log, but I've gotten through bigger stuff (18"?) with ease (if it's not terribly knotty or something really hard like Madrone).  It's really quiet, too.
DH and I used to be able to split and stack a cord in maybe an hour, hour and 1/2 with one working the splitter and one handing off logs.
