Hello~ I'm looking into getting a large chicken to be a companion of sorts for my turkey. I believe a coyote got his brother and the chicken flock he used to hang out with and he's the last bird left. I've since moved him over to my property and set him up in a kennel, but I can tell he's lonely. He gets let out during the day and locked up at night and I was hoping to find another companion bird that would be safe in the kennel with him at night and hang out with him during the day. I want to raise them from a chick so they're part of the family.

Does anyone have a specific recommendation of bird? I don't want to get another turkey. I don't want to risk having another male who could grow up to become a rival or a female he would think he needs to fight for. He and his brother were the most docile and loving birds I've ever had and I don't want to ruin that dynamic, hence why I'm thinking a chicken might strike a good balance. Even if the chicken were to turn out to be a rooster and fight, I doubt my turkey would be harmed. I've never known him to start a fight, only end them. He prefers to mind his own business.

A peacock could work too, but I'm not sure where to find one these days. The only person I knew to have them refused to sell them to me until they were 6 months old, and by then it's far too late to imprint them.

Do NOT get a chicken hen. He would eventually try to breed and inadvertently kill her.
Yeah I'm afraid of something like that. He never tried mating with any of the birds before, but I'm hoping for a rooster. I just don't know how guaranteed that is if I get a chick
